A 12-Week Immersion in Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self
January 11 – March 29, 2021
Enrollment is now closed.
Are there dreams and creative projects that you’d like to pursue or revisit? Are you in a career or life transition, asking, “What’s next?” or “What do I really want?” and seeking to live more fully expressed?
Reclaim your passions and authentic expression as you learn to overcome procrastination, perfectionism and self-sabotage in this 12-week guided encounter with your own creativity. You will excavate lost dreams, dismantle limiting beliefs, break through blocks and recover a sense of possibility and abundance – and the confidence to pursue your dreams—whatever they are!
Over the course of twelve weeks you will receive step-by-step guidance to ditch perfectionism, express yourself with authenticity, pure joy, and creativity, alongside deepening your yoga practice. The work takes you deeper into your life story and “issues” than the title may suggest, and requires a commitment of time and energy, but the results are powerful and life-changing if you stick with the process and challenge your resistance.
This course is not just for artists and not just for yogis, but for anyone who wants to live more authentically and tap into their creative potential.
How it Works
We meet weekly as a group at Mountain Zen Yoga Studio from 6:00 – 8:00pm every Monday beginning January 11, 2021. [PLEASE NOTE: these meetings are currently scheduled to meet in-person but may move to Zoom if COVID-19 restrictions require greater safety measures]. You will be supported by a circle of like-minded peers, authentic conversation, humor and accountability as we work through a chapter of Julia Cameron’s bestselling book The Artist’s Way each week. Each session will include prompted written exercises, grounding meditations, small group discussions and an overview of the week’s work alongside a guided yoga practice to strengthen the connection of the mind to the heart of your creative self.
But wait…there’s more!
You will have homework! You will be expected to devote several hours each week to transformative at-home assignments, reading and self-care. This is no small undertaking. Be ready to commit fully to the work and the meetings – and to yourself – for the duration of the course.
The Two Basic Tools: Morning Pages and Artist Date
Throughout the course, you will work with the two basic tools outlined in Julia Cameron’s book on a daily and weekly basis:
Daily Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream-of-consciousness writing to be done first thing every morning. There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages – they are not high art. They are not even “writing.” They are about anything and everything that crosses your mind– and they are for your eyes only. Don’t over-think it: just dump whatever’s on your mind onto paper…then do three more pages the next day.
The Artist Date is a once-weekly, festive, solo expedition to explore something that interests you. The Artist Date does not need to be overtly “artistic” — think mischief more than mastery. Artist Dates fire up the imagination. They spark whimsy. They encourage play. Since art is about the play of ideas, they feed our creative work by replenishing our inner well of images and inspiration. When choosing an Artist Date, it is good to ask yourself, “what sounds fun?” — and then allow yourself to try it.
